Around 180 study participants with pre-diabetes will be enrolled from 10 villages of these taluks.

The primary objective of the study is to understand the effect of almond consumption for 16 weeks on glycemic control among rural Indian adults with pre-diabetes compared to the control population. The study also aims to determine the effect of almond consumption on the colonization of beneficial gut microbiota and fecal short chain fatty acid levels among rural Indian adults with pre-diabetes.

This study has been registered with Clinical Trials Registry, India (CTRI) and is pending approval. It has, however, been approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at GEF-M.
